The Detroit Pistons’ Unfortunate Luck: Securing the Fifth Pick in the NBA Draft Lottery

Pistons fans watched their team win fourteen games this season, only to leave with the… fifth pick of the Draft. The Draft Lottery balls have one passion in life, and that is to beat the hell out of the Pistons front office. The proverb was true! “You can’t have shit in Detroit“.

The Pistons are not fucking possible, what BAD.

Let’s start with a little statistic. Until 2023, it had never happened in the history of the Lottery that a team with the worst record fell outside the top 4 of the Draft… It has now happened to the Pistons two years in a row. Yes, after 2023 and their 17 victories, the Pistons have this year won 14 games, experienced a series of 28 defeats in a row, experienced the impossible hell of a franchise which is struggling to carry out its rebuild… all this to select in fifth in the Draft. For the third year in a row. Mark Tatum has indeed, once again, called the Detroit Pistons before the ad break for the 2024 Draft lottery, while Wizards, Hawks, Rockets and Spurs had not yet been designated.

This fifth pick is… literally the worst result the Pistons could have hoped for. Their latest results guarantee them at least the top 5 of the Draft. Detroit can give up on its hopes of a top prospect, we will probably not see Alexandre Sarr, Zaccharie Risacher and other Reed Sheppard land in Michigan, the other franchises will quickly get their hands on these profiles before Detroit selects .

The 2024 NBA Draft Lottery presented by State Farm will be held Sunday afternoon in Chicago and air live at 3:00 PM ET on ABC.

For the second year in a row, it was the worst possible scenario that unfolded before the eyes of Pistons fans. Beginning of a curse, relentlessness of the basketball gods or simple statistical curiosity? One thing is certain, Ausar Thompson would rather laugh than cry.
