Coach Gailītis has spent his entire club career so far in the coaching corps of “VEF Rīga”. Gailītis still joined Vefiņas as a player in 2007, when Valdis Valters revived the club he once represented. In 2010, Gailītis hung up his running shoes on a nail and tried on a coach’s suit, becoming Rima Kurtinais’ assistant. Gailītis has also worked in the coaching staff of “VEF Riga” head coaches such as Ramūns Butauts, Nikolajs Mazurs and Carlos Frade. In 2015, Gailītis took over the position of Vefiņa’s helmsman, managing to collect two or three triumphs in the renewed Latvian Cup and achieving six Latvian championship titles, but is currently chasing the seventh one as well.
Since Italian coach Lukas Banki took charge of the Latvian national team, Gailītis has also been in the coaching staff of the national team.
There are already several successor candidates and there is a possibility that people will soon learn a little Latvian in Weißenfels.
