The average occupancy of cold storage warehouses exceeded 78% in the fourth quarter of 2023 |

The Association of refrigeration, logistics and distribution operations of Spain (Aldefe) has presented the results of its Cold Observatory referring to the last quarter of last year. And, according to these data, the average occupancy of frozen product warehouses in Spain has been 78.50% during the fourth quarter of 2023. This represents an increase of 8% in its turnover compared to the previous quarter, reaching 112. 9 million euros.

At a regional level, the highest occupancy is in the Canary Islands where the rate is 85.74%, closely followed by the central region with 85.12% and the Valencian Community with 84.24%. The figures decrease in Asturias and Galicia with 77.81%, while the North and the South present the lowest rates, being 69.26% and 67.53% respectively.

In the distribution by category of the products in demand, fish stand out, with 19.59%, followed at one point by meats with 18.56% and processed products, with the same figure of 18.56%.

Next, there is the group of vegetables, with 16.49% and the bread and miscellaneous segment, with 14.43%. Dairy products complete the list, with 9.28%, and pharmaceutical products, with 3.09%.

The association has expressed that “the frozen food market is in a moment of notable expansion and evolution” and that “consumers value its healthy nature, its availability and its price, especially in distributor brands.”
