Tennis WTA Rome 2024, today’s results: Sabalenka in the semifinals

If there are surprises for men, the women’s tournament Internazionali d’Italia offers certainties. For the first time since 2013, in fact, the top three players in the world have reached the semi-finals of a WTA tournament: it hasn’t happened since Roland Garros 2013, exactly eleven years ago. After no. 1 Iga Swiatek and the n. 3 Coco Gauff, also n. 2 Aryna Sabalenka qualified for the semi-finals of the Foro Italico. The Belarusian beat Jelena Ostapenko, n. 9 of the seeding, with a clear 6-2, 6-4 in just under an hour and a quarter of play. Sabalenka dominated the match, proving herself worse than back pain that had influenced his eve. The 26-year-old from Minsk awaits her compatriot Vika in the semifinals Azarenka o Americana Danielle Collinsengaged at 7pm in the last quarter-final to be followed live on Sky Sport Uno and streaming on NOW.

The first semi-final is Swiatek-Gauff

As mentioned, the semi-final of the top part of the scoreboard will see Iga involved Swiatek and Coco Gauff. The n. 1 in the world eliminated the American Madison Keys conceding just 4 games: 6-1, 6-3 the score in an hour and 17 minutes of play. For the Polish it is the 75th victory in 85 matches played on clay: unplayable on this surface. Swiatek’s opponent in the semi-final will be Coco Gauff who defeated the Chinese Qinwen Zheng, n. 7 seeding, with a score of 7-6(4), 6-1. A match fought only in the first set, then the 20-year-old from Atlanta took off in the second set, thus hitting the first win of the season against a top 10 team and the second semi-final of his career in Rome.
