Shocking moment at the tournament in Rome: Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic is hit by a drinking bottle. The world number one falls to the ground.

Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic was hit in the head by a drinking bottle after his victory at the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome against Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

Videos on social media showed the 36-year-old Serb signing autographs for fans on his way out of the stadium and a bottle falling on his head. The world number one then fell to the ground and grabbed the back of his head. Caregivers accompanied him into the catacombs a short time later.

Djokovic had previously easily won the game against Moutet in the Roman Foro Italico 6:3, 6:1. The 24-time Grand Slam champion moved into the third round, where he will now face Alejandro Tabilo from Chile, the conqueror of Yannick Hanfmann from Karlsruhe.

Accidentally dropped a drinking bottle on Djokovic?

The organizers of the tennis tournament in the Italian capital announced in the evening that Djokovic had been treated with appropriate medication and had already left the Foro Italico to return to his hotel. His condition is not worrying. A statement said that the drinking bottle had probably accidentally fallen on the six-time winner of the tournament and was not thrown at him on purpose.

Social media users expressed concern for Djokovic after the incident. He remained on the ground for several seconds after the incident. It was initially suspected that the bottle had been thrown at him intentionally. The German ex-tennis professional Boris Becker commented on the video on X: “Disgusting behavior from someone.”
