French Open: Teichmann and Ritschard still need a win
Jil Teichmann (WTA 199) is just one win away from making it into the main draw of the French Open. The Swiss defeated the Chinese Sijia Wei (WTA 190) 6:4 6:3 in the 2nd round of qualifying on Wednesday. Teichmann was particularly efficient on the important points and fended off 6 out of 7 break points. Her opponent in the 3rd qualifying round is the Spaniard Irene Burillo Escorihuela (WTA 280). Alexander Ritschard (ATP 184) also only has one more hurdle to overcome. He won the 2nd round 6:1, 6:3 against the Frenchman Titouan Droguet (ATP 132). The 30-year-old from Zurich will now face the 8 years younger Canadian Gabriel Diallo (ATP 166).
Laver Cup: Agassi replaces McEnroe
Andre Agassi will replace John McEnroe as captain of Team World at the Laver Cup from 2025. The winner of 8 Grand Slam titles will make his debut at the 8th edition of the tennis exhibition in September 2025 in San Francisco. This year the event will take place in Berlin. As has been the case since the beginning of the Laver Cup, former rivals McEnroe and Björn Borg will face each other as captains of Team World and Team Europe.
