Tadej Pogacar achieves a ‘little hand’ without breaking his hair

The Slovenian continues to strengthen the ‘pink jersey’ in a stage neutralized by snow and cold

BARCELONA, 21 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar remains unstoppable in the Giro d’Italia after winning, in the sixteenth stage neutralized by bad weather, finally held between Laas and Santa Cristina Valgardena (Monte Pana) over just 118.7 kilometers, his fifth stage victory in this ‘Corsa rosa’ that you have in your pocket unless it falls or is abandoned.

Pogacar, the ‘Little Prince’, achieved a ‘little hand’ on Mount Pana almost effortlessly, with Rafal Majka being the only UAE who had to set a high pace and without the need for the Slovenian to attack to, at his own pace, finish He alone with a breakaway in which the young Italian Giulio Pellizzari (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè) stood out, second at 16″.

It’s a show. There is no other way to describe ‘Pogi’, who continues to give away pieces of clothing to fans and rivals – this time the ‘pink jersey’ to Pellizzari – given that he does not plan to give away stages. It seemed like he slowed down the pace a lot, on purpose, so as not to catch the transalpine but he did. He passed him as if nothing had happened, he won by making the ‘little hand’ gesture to the rainy sky and, in the tent, he gave the consolation prize to Pellizzari.

With no race ahead, since Pogacar runs another Giro d’Italia compared to the rest of the 99 cyclists who finished this cold stage, the first of the mortals – as they used to say at the peak of the footballer Leo Messi – is Daniel Felipe Martínez (COL/BORA-hansgrohe), who arrived at the wheel of a Pellizzari whom he could not pass with just 16″ lost to Pogacar and putting 37″ on a Geraint Thomas (INEOS Grenadiers) who was weak again, without the help of a Thymen Arensman who is more rival than companion.

In the provisional general classification, Daniel Felipe Martínez is second after those scandalous 7:18 minutes lost with Pogacar. Third is Geraint Thomas, now at 7:40 and with the focus on his particular duel with Martínez, who was his partner and sometimes squire at INEOS in the last three years. Fourth overall is the Australian Ben O’Connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team), already at 8:42, and the Italian and best young man of the Giro, Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain-Victorious), closes the quintet at 10:09.

It was a neutralized stage, with two route changes before the start from Laas at around 2:30 p.m. Short stage, without the Stelvio or the Cima Coppi of the UmbrailPass, due to the intense cold, with a snowfall that turned the first kilometers white, finally set at 118.4.

The organization of the Giro d’Italia, following the guidelines of the Extreme Meteorology Protocol commission of the ‘Corsa rosa’, and after meeting with teams and riders this Tuesday, decided to neutralize the stage and avoid passing through the Umbrailpass, the most top of this Italian round, and the historic Stelvio, also snow-covered.
