Switzerland shows its muscles in the first third, allows the British to play the rest – Hockey – Sportacentrs.com

The Swiss tried to decide the outcome of the fight already in the first third. This was clearly reflected on the field early on – in the second minute, Nino Niederreiter broke out alone against the British goalkeeper Jackson Whistle, who was slightly (but enough to award a penalty kick) caught by the islanders’ defender Nathaniel Halbert. Kevin Fiala took the free kick, but he failed to do what he intended, the puck coming off the shoulder blade.

However, after a few minutes, the Swiss took the lead. After a play from a sharp angle, the team’s leading defender Roman Jozi tried to beat the goalkeeper, Whistle was able to cope with this powerful shot, but the puck bounced right in front of the goal to Niko Hischier, who hit it into the net.

The Swiss, who scored seven times as many shots (14-2) in the first 20 minutes, doubled their lead in the 14th minute, when Whistle was unable to properly catch the wrist shot of former National Hockey League (NHL) player Dean Kukan, as the puck bounced off his glove and over the goal line.

In the next 40 minutes, the Swiss reduced the power a little, but were still superior. The British, however, managed to avoid defeat (which was certainly not an unlikely scenario in the pre-match predictions) by not withstanding just one of the remaining Swiss attacks.
