Success at the Palabarton: Over a Thousand Athletes Compete in Judo Championships

Over a thousand athletes took to the mats of the Palabarton, set up with 10 double row competition areas for kids and 4 for seniors

Important success for participants and the public in the two days of competitions which saw Perugia as the epicenter of federal Judo over the weekend. The Fijlkam Regional Committee has organized several events starting from the ‘Assoluti A2 Seniror’ followed by the ‘Fisdir Italian Championships’ to complete with the event with the ‘Ernesto Giaverina Youth Criterium’ now in its third edition.

Over a thousand athletes took to the mats of the Palabarton, set up with 10 double-line competition areas for kids and 4 for seniors, offering a special view that would be the envy of renowned international competitions.

An important commitment undertaken by the regional committee of the sector with Robertino Camilli at the head of the sector consultancy which, after the successes recorded by the last editions of the ‘International Grand Prix of Umbria’, saw one of the most important events on the federal calendar awarded.

Many compliments and certificates of approval received for the organization of the event but the icing on the cake for the regional movement came from the conquest of the Italian title by the very young Alessandro Bicorgni in the 66kg., I poeti del Judo, and from Federica’s bronze Pharaoh in the 78kg, Cus Perugia.

Robertino Camilli, president of the Judo Umbria sector, speaks: “For months, together with the members of the Council, whom I thank for their commitment and precious support, we have been working to organize an event of this magnitude which has been missing from Umbria for over ten years. . We did our best to offer a positive image of the Umbrian movement and we couldn’t fail. The wave of consensus received by the organization of the International Grand Prix led us to undertake this challenge which we faced with all our strength and we won. The successes of our boys on the tatami are evidence that the technical value offered by our region is also at the federal top.”

Andrea Arena, regional president of Fijlkam, takes the floor “I believe that Master Giaverina from above greatly appreciated seeing over four hundred children in judogi having fun at the hall in the Criterium that bears his name. This was just the sweet conclusion of a two-day show full of entertainment with the A2 Championships and the Italian Fisdir Championship for the first time in Umbria. Thanks for the realization of this imaginary dream certainly goes to the Judo Council which worked intensely, involving clubs and members for the best possible outcome of the event. The Municipality of Perugia and the Regional Coni who supported us from the first moment allowing us to embark on this adventure where Csen was no exception by providing the usual support.

It is not for nothing that we received compliments from the many federal guests and the almost two hundred associations from every corner of the peninsula and who have already asked us for an encore at Palabarton for next season.

We are a truly beautiful team where everyone provides their own contribution and I am sure that Alessandro and Federica’s medals will be the driving force for the entire federal regional movement whether Judo, Wrestling, Karate or Jujitsu because as I always say our small region is a land of great technical athletes, referees and managers and asserts himself in every field. So, with a smile, we are already ready for the next adventure whatever it may be.”
