Success at the Archers de Montgiscard: Highlights from the French Outdoor Championship

the essentials It was the first outdoor championship of the season, organized by the Archers de Montgiscard.

Started on Friday 17/05 with the French nature team championship, it ended on Sunday 19/05 with the French individual championship. The event was a great success for the club.

535 individual archers from all over France participated. Among them, Maëlys, who came from Moselle with her family. She has been practicing archery for 3 years and has managed to convert her mother (who even takes the exam to become a referee) and her little sister. It was his first participation in the French championships. She explains: “I like outdoor sports. I was favored because it rained and there was a lot of mud but in Moselle we are used to these terrains.” Four different courses were distributed between Donneville, Montgiscard and Deyme with a very popular shuttle service to take competitors to the site. The courses, located in the hillsides, included 21 targets placed from 5 to 40 meters.

The 3 days end with 35 podiums in 5 categories. The Montgiscard club had entered 6 archers.

Congratulations to Jayne Waczecka who won a gold medal in hunting bow.

Stéphane Cochet, the secretary of the Archers, highlighted the 3 years of work upstream and the last 6 months of intense preparation necessary for the event. He also thanked the 120 volunteers as well as the Virades of Hope of Espanés for their valuable help.

Pascal Michel, president of the club for 23 years, declared himself very satisfied.

The championship met expectations and delighted the archers. As much in terms of the different courses as the organization or even the craft village set up, the competitors were unanimous in their pleasure to be present.

The organizers now have the difficult task of dismantling the organization village and the competition courses.
