Struggling to Secure Funding: International Judo Tournament in Senegal Faces Budget Shortfall

Facing journalists, the president of the committee, also president of the sports institute and the Northern league of the Senegalese Federation of Judo and similar disciplines, Mr. Ngor Faye and his team, suggested that they are far from complete the tournament budget set at 37,359,000 CFA francs. Because, according to President Ngor Faye, the committee was only able to mobilize 1% of the budget. A situation that he explains by the fact that many of their pimps are no longer in the government, following the recent change of the regime in Senegal.

All things considered, Mr. Faye does not lose hope and firmly believes in support from the new Minister of Sports, Youth and Culture. “We are still waiting for funds from partners who will perhaps support this international tournament, part of the sporting and cultural agenda of the 300-year-old city, in particular the Minister of Sports who, I hope, will be in Saint-Louis for the opening of the Jazz festival”, he underlined, before returning to the delegations expected for this tournament.

“Countries like Mauritania, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Guinea Conakry are expected at the 24th edition of the international judo tournament. And even the delegations of Gabon and Congo are already in Senegal for the needs of a tournament organized in Dakar and will stay in the country to participate in that of Saint-Louis” reported Mr. Faye, president of the organizing committee of the international judo tournament of Saint-Louis.
