Strasbourg Defender Lucas Perrin Reflects on Young Team’s Difficult Season

Strasbourg defender Lucas Perrin spoke to our colleagues at France Blue Alsace. According to him, the project, focused on the emergence of young people, is partly responsible for the difficult season experienced by his team, currently in 13th place in Ligue 1 with 39 points.

“We’re not going to hide it, this year, it was almost a miracle that we were maintained. We ask 18, 19 year old players – and I have nothing against them young people – but we ask 18, 19 year old players to have the responsibilities of 30 year old guys. It’s like that. But we don’t spit on it. We held on this year and I was always behind the youngsters. »

An uncertain future

He believes that the workforce must be more balanced: “We need to supervise them more, have an older workforce. This is what we missed this season. We made stupid mistakes, youthful mistakes that I think we could make up for. »

At the end of his contract in a year, he does not know if he will stay on the banks of the Rhine. “We’ll see what happens next year. Because I don’t know anything. » The former OM player adds: “As I have always said, I am happy here, but there has to be a follow-up behind it, there has to be a sporting project. […] What makes me [il réfléchit] not sad, but what annoys me a little is the lack of consideration on the part of the club. »

To conclude, the 25-year-old, soon to be father, says: “There was a lot missing this year to be able to achieve the objectives that were set at the start of the season. We were told the top 10 and in the end, we are very, very far from it. It was the president who made the speech for his project. »
