Stormy Weather Delays Liga MX Final Match Kickoff near Mexico City

Heavy rain began to fall south of Mexico City one hour before the start of the second leg Final that was scheduled to begin at 7 pm central Mexico time (9 pm ET, 8 pm CT and 6 pm PT in USA).

The core of the electrical storm will pass through the Azteca Stadium at 6:30 pm local time and that is why Liga MX decided to postpone the Final back to 7:35 pm central Mexico time.

“Due to weather conditions, the start of the Grand Final match between América and Cruz Azul has been delayed,” Liga MX reported.

The rain in the Azteca Stadium reminds us of the Final 11 years ago on the same date, May 26, when the Águilas defeated La Maquina on penalties to become champion in the 2013 Clausura after Moisés Muñoz’s ‘miraculous’ header in compensation time.

The azulcrema team dreams of achieving the third two-time championship in its history and lifting the 15th at the Azteca Stadium, while the cement team longs for the tenth three years after breaking a curse of almost 24 years without being champion.
