A furious first inning ensures the first win of the season
Baseball State League II – May 11, 2024 – Wuppertal Stingrays 2 vs. Duisburg Flying Bats
The second men of the Wuppertal Stingrays received on May 11th. the Duisburg Flying Bats for the first home game this year. We went into this game very motivated, as we had lost heavily against the same Duisburg team two days before.
That was evident from the start. Fourteen batters came to bat in the first inning. Nine of them were able to land hits and in the process a total of eleven points were scored.
Matty Mangolds Double, on which three runners scored, reflected the highlight.
Let Ortmann got the start as a pitcher, even though the goal from the start was that he should only pitch two innings to stay in shape.
That’s how it happened. He recorded four strikeouts in his two innings and did not allow a run to be scored. The Stingrays then rested on their high lead offensively for a few periods of the game. In the fourth inning they were able to Sebastian Funke and Cedric Teichlerafter they both recorded walks, on a single by Sebastian Byrtus add another two points. Cedric Teichler, who took over as pitcher in the third inning, kept Duisburg under control very well over four innings. For his part, he had six strikeouts and only allowed two runs. The foundation for the first win of the season had long since been laid.
