Steinhauser returns to the podium

Andrea Vendrame has won the 19th stage of the Giro d’Italia. The Italian won the 157-kilometer route from Mortegliano to Sappada on Friday in partly pouring rain. The 29-year-old from the French team Decathlon rode a lonely race at the front and won a Giro stage for the second time after 2021, almost a minute ahead of Spaniard Pelyo Sanchez.

Georg Steinhauser (Scheidegg), who had secured the first German stage victory on Wednesday, was able to break away from the chasing group after a great race about ten kilometers from the finish and was only caught by Sanchez.

There were no changes at the top of the overall standings. Slovenian Tadej Pogacar is still well in the lead ahead of the finale this weekend, ahead of Colombian Daniel Felipe Martinez Poveda and Geraint Thomas (Great Britain).

On the 20th stage on Saturday, the riders will face the last mountain stage on the 184-kilometer route from Alpago to Bassano del Grappa.
