Tennis: Stan Wawrinka already eliminated in Bordeaux

Stan Wawrinka will still have to wait before stringing together two victories in a row in 2024. Thursday, the Vaudois (ATP 87), who had withdrawn last week from the Masters 1000 in Rome due to a painful wrist, was beaten in the round of 16 of the Bordeaux Challenger tournament by the Spaniard Pedro Martinez, 51st player in the world and seeded No. 2. “It’s an ice rink”
Visibly disturbed by the quality of the Bordeaux clay (“It’s unplayable, it’s an ice rink”, we could hear him say), the Swiss alternated between good and bad in the first set , during which he lost his serve twice. Three victories in 2024
This year, Wawrinka (39 years old) has a rather meager record: he has only three victories in twelve matches played. The Vaudois has not yet reached the round of 16 in 2024, whether on the ATP circuit or in Challenger.
