Special Olympics announces venue for 2027 World Games

The Special Olympics International Board of Directors announced this Wednesday at a press conference the country that will host the next competition.

The Special Olympics announced this Wednesday the venue for the 2027 World Games: Santiago de Chile.

The entity announced in a press conference that the South American country will host the next competition, which is great news in regards to the internationalization of the event, which wants to cover more countries and add more followers.

«The largest sporting and humanitarian event in the world is coming to the capital of Chile. “The Special Olympics International Board of Directors announced today that Santiago, Chile will host the 2027 Special Olympics World Games,” the statement reads.

“It is the first time in the organization’s 55-year history that a World Games will take place in the southern hemisphere,” he noted.

«In less than four years, Santiago will welcome more than 6,000 Special Olympics athletes from more than 170 nations to compete in 22 Olympic sports at Santiago’s state-of-the-art competition facilities. They will have the support of more than 2,000 coaches and thousands of volunteers. The Games will also attract 6,000 family members, more than 2,000 international media and 500,000 spectators. Home to a rich cultural heritage, impressive architecture and a long tradition of hosting global sporting events, Santiago is expected to leave a legacy of great importance, social transformation for Chile, its people and the Latin American region,” he concluded.

The Special Olympics World Games are held every two years and this time it will be Chile’s turn to be the center of the world.
