Spain’s ‘Mbappé Law’ Creates Unease for FC Barcelona in Real Madrid Transfer Battle

This time, all that is missing is the officialization of Real Madrid. Last Friday, Kylian Mbappé announced his departure from Paris Saint-Germain, after seven years of good and loyal service. The Bondynois has still not confirmed his future arrival at the Merengues, but in Madrid, everyone is working to welcome the French superstar. And not just Casa Blanca.

On April 22, the Spanish media revealed that the government of the Madrid region was going to validate a law called the “Mbappé Law”. And obviously, this law puts FC Barcelona on edge. Sport assures that this theme is a recurring subject of discussion within the Blaugrana management and that the latter would be outraged by this bill prepared by the autonomous community of Madrid. A project that is fiercely reminiscent of the famous Beckham law.

One more handicap for Barça

Clearly, Barça believes that this law will be an additional handicap for it while its current financial situation is already a handicap in fighting with the rival Merengue as well as the other big players in Europe. The Culers therefore fear that a player courted by the two Spanish giants would prefer to choose Casa Blanca in order to benefit from this tax reduction. As a reminder, the Mbappé law aims to apply a 20% tax reduction for foreign workers who come to settle and make investments in the Madrid region.

To better understand the matter, Sport explains to us that the Spanish IRPF (income tax) is made up of two parts: a national part, whose scale by income bracket is valid for all Spanish tax residents, and a part which varies according to the autonomous community in which you live. And in Madrid, the tax percentage for an annual income greater than €300,000 per year is 20.5%. A percentage which would drop to 0.5% with the application of the Mbappé law. A nice gift.
