Serie A: images of Olivier Giroud’s acrobatic goal against Salernitana with AC Milan

It’s a goal that sums up Olivier Giroud well: unorthodox, but terribly effective. This Saturday, in front of the San Siro fans, the French striker (131 caps, 57 goals) scored an acrobatic goal against Salernitana, during the 38th day of Serie A.

Five minutes after Rafael Leao opened the score (1-0, 22nd), the number 9 won his duel against his opposite number to dive at the near post following a corner. Held back, he seemed no longer able to play the ball as he fell. But the Milanese managed to extend his left foot to volley the ball.

Like the stadium, Giroud let his joy burst forth, congratulated by his teammates. In the process, the Curva Sud stand chanted “He has turned around, Giroud” to cheer his attacker, author of his fifteenth goal in Serie A. He also has eight assists.

Aged 37, the top scorer in the history of the Blues announced Thursday that he was retiring from international football after the Euro (June 14-July 14). Possibly starting at the forefront, the native of Chambéry will be keen to finish on a good note, and why not to win the competition, after the World Cup won in 2018. A documentary on his life will be broadcast this Sunday on Canal +. Then he will take charge of Los Angeles FC.
