Serbian basketball player Nikola Jokić won the MVP award (Most Valuable Player, in fact the best player) of the regular season of the NBA, the most important basketball championship in the world. Jokić is 29 years old, has played for the Denver Nuggets since 2015 and was elected MVP for the third time in his career (after 2021 and 2022).
Jokic, who won the NBA championship with the Nuggets last year, is the ninth player in the history of the league to be elected MVP three times: the others were Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (6 times), Michael Jordan (5), Bill Russell (4), LeBron James (4), Larry Bird (3), Wilt Chamberlain (3), Magic Johnson (3) and Moses Malone (3). The Nuggets are currently playing in the Western Conference semifinals of the playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves, and have lost their first two games.
