Saint-Etienne Players Shine at Ligue 2 Awards Ceremony in Paris

Indeed, there were several people from Saint-Etienne who could claim to leave with a trophy from Paris this evening. If Olivier Dall’Oglio saw Christophe Pélissier ahead of him when it comes to the best coach in the French Ligue 2 championship, Gautier Larsonneur was named best goalkeeper in the division. A trophy much less important than the collective objective of returning to Ligue 1 according to the Saint-Etienne goalkeeper: “We still have something to achieve during the last matches, we will try to close the loop and put the people of Saint-Etienne back where they belong. It’s always nice (to be voted best goalkeeper in Ligue 2, editor’s note). This is the fourth time I’ve come, this evening I’m coming home with something so it’s always more pleasant (smile). This trophy is not much compared to this collective reward that we can get. We’ve had a pretty trying season so if we manage to finish on a good note with the direct climb on Friday or in the play-offs, we’ll go for it.

He is not the only one to leave Paris with a trophy. Irvin Cardona sees his little dive made in the final moments of the match against Bordeaux rewarded since it is the best goal of the season in Ligue 2. The striker makes no mistake in thanking the many Saint-Etienne supporters who voted. He also talks about the end of the season and does not yet know what his future will hold: “I think I was helped a lot by the Saint-Etienne supporters, they are there to vote en masse. This goal ? I think it’s a pretty instinctive goal, I haven’t really had time to think about it. I see the goalkeeper advancing quickly on me, my first idea is to lob it and it ends up in the back of the net. In this match, we lost one to zero, there wasn’t much time left and we managed to turn the situation around and win this match. (…) There is still an important match, we have a huge desire to move up to Ligue 1 with Saint-Étienne. As for my future, for the moment I’m not really thinking about it, I’m staying focused on the club’s objectives. That was the purpose of my loan so we’ll see at the end of the season what happens for me.

As a reminder, the captain Anthony Briançon was also rewarded by appearing in the eleven type of the season alongside his goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur.
