The participation of the three-time world road champion, the Slovakian Peter Sagan, and the Spanish Luis León Sánchez, recent winner in Morocco, and the bonuses for the first three finishers are the novelties of the V Skoda Titan Desert Almería, which will be held from 5 to October 8, as announced this Thursday by the organizers in their official presentation.
At the event, held at the Provincial Palace of the Almería Provincial Council, were Javier Aureliano García Molina, president of the Almería Provincial Council; María del Mar Vázquez, mayor of Almería; Aránzazu Martín, delegate of the Government of the Junta de Andalucía in Almería; and Jesús García, CEO of the Titan World Series, and Manuel Tajada, sports director of the Titan World Series.
Also present was the former professional cyclist, winner of four stages in the Tour de France and current ambassador of the Titan World Series, Luis León Sánchez, who has just won the Skoda Titan Desert Morocco, with the Kosner-Saltoki Home in which the five-time champion of the Miguel Induráin Tour.
Each of the stages will be marked by a landscape and a different challenge: a first stage in Cabo de Gata, a second in the Tabernas desert, the third in which the Velefique peak will be climbed and a last one in which will carry out the usual visit to the Álvarez de Sotomayor Legion base.
For the president of the Almería Provincial Council, Javier Aureliano García Molina, the Skoda Titan Desert Almería allows us to show the “numerous benefits” of a province that continues to “surprise” even those who know it well. “When we see the images of the race and the spectacular landscapes through which the cyclists ride, we still marvel at the treasures of the province of Almería,” he said.
The delegate of the Government of the Government of Andalusia, Aránzazu Martín, explained that Titan Desert Almería has left a significant economic impact on the province throughout its different editions. “And we are clear that the tourism-sports combination works and even more so in a land with an enviable climate and so many possibilities like Almería,” she added.
The mayor of Almería, María del Mar Vázquez, has assessed that the holding of the event demonstrates that the capital is an ideal destination for holding major sporting events due to “its climate, its landscapes, modern hotels, network of sports facilities, gastronomy and culture”.
A GROWING CAREER
The CEO of the Titan World Series, Jesús García, has highlighted that the Skoda Titan Desert Almería continues to grow and innovate year after year. “We are now in our fifth edition and it seems incredible that new ways to improve and grow the race continue to emerge. This year, in addition to everything we always offer to participants: the territory, the experience, the challenge, we will give them a unique opportunity : to ride with Peter Sagan, one of the great idols of world cycling,” he announced.
The sports director of the race, Manuel Tajada, has focused on one of the great sporting novelties of the edition: the arrival bonuses. Thus, in each of the stages the first three finishers will be awarded 5, 3 and 1 seconds overall.
“It is something that we are incorporating this year in all our races. The idea is to generate more differences between the favorites and thus increase the spectacle,” he said.
One of the favorites for victory, Luis León Sánchez from Muleño, said he learned about this race last year and the experience was “incredible.” “The landscape, the people, the experience. It was facing a territory that I know well, but in a totally new way. I am looking forward to returning,” he confessed.
