Rugby: fly-half Louis Carbonel will join Stade Français next season

Stade Français has its next opener. In Montpellier since 2022, Louis Carbonel will join the capital this summer for a period of three seasons, according to information from The Team which we are able to confirm. Even if nothing is officially finalized, the Parisian club will thus buy out the last year of the French international’s contract (25 years, 5 caps), linked to the MHR until June 2025.

Once a great hope in French rugby, twice crowned under-20 world champion, Carbonel will try to relaunch in Paris, after two lackluster years in Montpellier. The good performance of Stade Français, second in the championship and almost assured of playing in the semi-finals two days before the end of the regular season, encouraged owner Hans-Peter Wild to put his hand in his pocket again.

Digital replacement for Segonds

Carbonel will replace Joris Segonds numerically, leaving for Bayonne in the off-season after having exceeded the 1,000 points mark with Paris on Sunday against Bordeaux-Bègles. He will share the opener position with Zack Henry and another defector from Montpellier, Louis Foursans-Bourdette. Before joining Stade Français, the player trained in Toulon will first try to keep the MHR in the elite. 13th in Top 14, his team will play a play-off against the unfortunate finalist of Pro D 2 on June 16.
