Roland-Garros 2024: Carlos Alcaraz plays against JJ Wolf and qualifies for the second round

A quiet Sunday. The day spent by Carlos Alcaraz, Porte d’Auteuil, looked like a walk in the park. Opposed to the American JJ Wolf, 107th in the world, the Spaniard easily won his first match at Roland-Garros (6-1, 6-2, 6-1).

If the doubts about his state of form are not completely dispelled due to the weak pedigree of his opponent, the Spaniard showed all his concentration.

A little over 1h50 to win

Defeated in Miami against Grigor Dimitrov and Madrid against Andrey Rublev before withdrawing from Rome, injured in the right forearm, Alcaraz did not last long this afternoon. Broken straight away, he then pocketed all the games in the first set.

During the second and third sets, Wolf did not offer stronger resistance, logically. Twice crowned Grand Slam (US Open 2022 and Wimbledon 2023), Alcaraz crossed paths with future winner Novak Djokovic last year. This year, the Spaniard, despite a tournament more open than ever, could benefit from the uncertainties around the Serbian’s state of form to aim for a first title in the tournament.
