He once described it as a “bittersweet moment”. But soon Roger Federer will share this with all of us in feature length. It has been clear since Wednesday: From June 20th, “Twelve Last Days”, the documentary about Roger Federer’s last steps on the global tennis stage, will be shown on screens at everyone’s home. The streaming provider Prime Video announced this on the same day.

The work was directed by Oscar winner Asif Kapadia. It’s about September 2022. At that time, the Swiss tennis icon Roger Federer returned to the court after long-term knee problems and played the last match of his great career.

From Zurich to more than 240 countries

But on Thursday, September 15, 2022, Federer was sitting in Zurich’s luxury hotel Baur au Lac near Bürkliplatz when he announced shortly after 3 p.m. that he was no longer returning to the tennis court. In his announcement about the decision, the now 42-year-old Basel native spoke of the “bittersweet moment”.

The documentary, now compiled from private and public footage, will be shown exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. According to the streaming provider of the US online mail order company Amazon, Federer’s biggest rivals Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray will also have their say.

Originally a private film project

“The original idea was to capture the last moments of my professional tennis career so that I could later show them to my family and friends,” Federer was quoted as saying about the film project at the beginning of the year. During his career, he tended to avoid cameras around himself and his family. “But I thought it wouldn’t hurt to film it since it was never intended for the public.” But then the opinion changed.

The resignation is probably one of the most personal moments in his life – and at the same time one of the most public. «It was wonderful to publish the news surrounded by mom, dad and Mirka. “Who would have thought that the journey would take so long,” writes Federer. And so Roger Federer will definitely open his private archive to the public from June 20th. At least a crack wide.

The Swiss national ice hockey team maintained its unbeaten streak in the fourth World Cup game in Prague. Coach Patrick Fischer’s team effortlessly defeated Great Britain 3-0.

Players repeatedly emphasize that there are no longer any “small” teams at a World Cup. However, there was a clear class difference between Switzerland and Great Britain, especially at the beginning. The shooting ratio after 20 minutes was 14:2. In this respect, the most difficult thing for the favorite was to keep his concentration high, which he managed to some extent. However, the ice hockey team did not do more than the bare minimum after the first break; the intensity of the game was low. The British were harmless even in the power play.
