Rik Verheye has been co-owner of Sporting Hasselt since last summer. Already in his first season he had to call a trainer.
Benny Lunenburg was pushed aside by Sam Kerkhofs and Verheye. That was, according to Rik, the most difficult moment of the season. “Definitely. On a human level, that was a very tough nut to crack,” he says.
“I’m not used to having such conversations myself,” Verheye continues in Het Belang van Limburg. “It was a confrontation with the major variable that football still is. In a classic work situation it is much clearer who is doing his job well and poorly. But when a coach is dismissed you make a decision and you will never know whether it is the was the best.”
