Recap: Fluminense Falls to São Paulo 2-1 in Brazilian Championship Match

Fluminense was beaten 2-1 by São Paulo this Monday (13/05), in a match valid for the sixth round of the Brazilian Championship. With the result at Morumbi, Tricolor remains with five points in the competition.

The team led by Fernando Diniz returns to the field on Thursday (16/05), when they face Cerro Porteño at Maracanã. The clash takes place at 7pm, in the fifth round of the Conmebol Libertadores group stage.

FIRST TIME

In the 12th minute, Alexsander invaded the area from the left, cleared the marker, hit a cross without much power and the defender made the cut. At 17, Tricolor put pressure on the opponent in the attacking field and stole the ball. Keno, centralized, tried the shot and sent it over the top. At 28, Kauã Elias received it from Alexsander and left Keno facing the goal. The attacker finished low, the goalkeeper palmed it, the ball exploded over the opponent’s winger Igor Vinícius and went straight to the back of the net, opening the scoring for Fluminense. At 31, Bobadilla equalized for São Paulo.

SECOND TIME

In the 6th minute of the second half, Diogo Barbosa crossed and Arias, first time, sent a bomb close to the goal. At 9, the ball passed through Kauã Elias and Arias, and Marquinhos advanced to the baseline and looked for the cross, but the defense made the cut. At 29, Marquinhos created another opportunity with a cross, but the goalkeeper kept possession.

Tricolor continued looking for the second goal through passes from foot to foot and good movements. However, at 38, Arboleda scored for São Paulo. At 43, John Kennedy received the ball on the right wing and saved it for the goalkeeper. Then, after a cut by the defense, the ball fell to Marcelo, who caught it and stopped at the post.
