Ratiopharm Ulm Receives Bundesliga License for 24/25 Season Without Any Conditions

No fuss, no argument, no requirements: Ratiopharm Ulm has received the Bundesliga license for the coming season. The league announced this on Tuesday.

The reigning champions are one of 16 Bundesliga clubs that got through the process without any problems. The BBL examined the sporting and economic situation of the clubs – and also whether they work sustainably.

Ulm met the conditions and received the BBL license for 24/25 without any conditions – unlike last year. For some smaller clubs, however, the procedure was a problem. The league rejected six applications, and one club only received a license under conditions.

Still a positive result from BBL’s perspective. “The clubs work meticulously and submit excellently prepared applications,” praised Thomas Braumann, chairman of the licensing committee.

Almost two decades of the Bundesliga

For Ratiopharm Ulm the news is concrete: 19 years of the first league. The Swabians made it back to the top German league in 2006. Since then they have established themselves in the top German league. Last year the club celebrated its first major title: the German championship.

They want to defend them this year. Ulm made it into the playoffs in fourth place and will play against the Würzburg Baskets in the quarterfinals. The first game will take place on Saturday, 6:30 p.m., in the Ratiopharm Arena.

Meanwhile, Ulm’s first departure in the summer has already become known. The talented Maximilian Langenfeld will leave Ulm. The 20-year-old is moving to a US college – even though he actually wanted to stay in Ulm.

Langenfeld would have liked to be in Ulm’s BBL squad. It is not yet clear what this will look like next season. Several player contracts are expiring. Among others, that of Thomas Klepeisz and Nicolas Bretzel. It is still unclear whether they will extend it.
