Ratings for Real Madrid’s season, 10 in Bellingham and…

In Europe there are only two teams for which the current season, 2023-24, can be defined as perfect: they are Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen. What these two teams have in common is having won their respective national championships with a few rounds to spare and being in the finals of European competitions. Leverkusen has just reached the Europa League final by eliminating Roma in a double match (2-0, 2-2). Furthermore, the Germans have already largely won the Bundesliga, with two days to go they have 87 points with an advantage of 15 over second place, Bayern Munich.

Wind in the sails also for Los Blancos in the Spanish La Liga, the Madrid team have already mathematically won the title with four matchdays (90 points) to go and are ahead of second-placed Girona by 75 points. The Champions League final was obtained at the expense of Bayern Munich in a hard-fought double match: 2-2, 2-1 the respective scores. Before the Germans, the Spaniards had eliminated M. City (3-3, 4-3 after penalties) and Leipzig (1-0, 1-1). Of this great performance, perhaps the most impressive feat is having won their group, group C, with full points, 18 points out of 18 available.

If we have to assign votes, Real Madrid’s season overall is nine. To assign an excellent 10 cum laude, the icing on the cake is missing, namely the Champions League, the final of which is scheduled for June 1st at 9pm at one of the prestigious temples of football: Wembley Stadium. Individually, we can and must assign a 10 to coach Carlo Ancelotti, who has reached his sixth Champions League final, ninth if we consider those as a footballer, of which 6 have already been won.

The other Madrid star is the very young English footballer, born in 2003, Jude Victor William Bellingham. Having highlighted himself at Euro 2020, actually played in 2021 due to the well-known events related to Covid, Bellingham has willingly adapted to the new advanced role created for him to perfection by Ancelotti, effectively becoming the star of this Madrid season. There is a curious aspect linked to Bellingham’s card. The Englishman was purchased by Los Blancos from Borussia Dortmund, the other Champions League finalist. If the Germans lose they will be able to console themselves with the greater income linked to the Englishman’s performances: the so-called Bellingham bonus even if in reality fans and managers would much prefer to win their second Champions League.

Despite not having particularly shone in the second semi-final of the Champions League, the other Madrid star Jamal Musiala also promoted with full marks. As far as the Champions League odds are concerned, the Spanish are clear favorites with the victory priced at 1.63 against Dortmund’s 5.00. Draw at 4.10.
