railway workers in the same boat as police officers

The so-called “convergence” session therefore made it possible to… converge towards a probable agreement. The day after a very successful day of strike in public transport in Ile-de-France, the president of the SNCF, Jean-Pierre Farandou, and the company’s four unions (CGT Cheminots, UNSA Ferroviaire, SUD -Rail, CFDT Cheminots) negotiated, Wednesday May 22, on the amount of bonuses granted to railway workers mobilized from July 22 to September 8 for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (JOP). This protocol is “open for signature until Tuesday June 4”, announced management. She refused to specify the overall cost of this plan, while ensuring that it will not “no impact for taxpayers or on ticket prices”.

“The proposed compensation is 95 euros [bruts] per day worked during sporting events for the 50,000 railway workers mobilized throughout the country, whatever the profession”with a total amount of « 1 900 euros maximum »announced the management at the end of a round table lasting more than four hours. “In terms of republican commitment”explained a manager, there was no question of exceeding this ceiling of 1,900 euros planned from January for police officers and gendarmes. “A sort of republican reference”, confirmed Mr. Farandou, Wednesday evening, on BFM-TV. If the ceiling set at the RATP is higher (up to 2,500 euros for an RER driver), it only concerns 5% of the agents mobilized, he indicates.

The agreement also provides for a “package of 50 euros per day and per household” for childcare costs and “the possibility of deferring eight days of leave until June 30, 2025”. As most of the events take place in Ile-de-France, 30,000 railway workers will be mobilized there for a longer period than in the provinces. Transporting spectators twice a day to the Stade de France in Saint-Denis represents, for example, an unprecedented challenge for the railway company.

Outside of Ile-de-France, 20,000 agents will also participate in welcoming and transporting additional travelers expected for these Olympics, but for shorter periods. Particularly in Marseille for the sailing events, but also in Lyon, Lille, Bordeaux, Nantes, Nice, Saint-Etienne or Chateauroux. The SNCF reminds that “the level of rail traffic will be higher than that of a normal summer (on average +15% in Ile-de-France)”. She will have to circulate “4,500 additional trains” in the Paris region (300 more trains each day) and 370 more TER trains to the JOP host cities, while adapting transport plans for TGV and Intercity trains.
