While training to arrive in the best conditions, Nadal has given an exclusive interview to France TV Sport. In it he has assured that he does not see himself “entering the track knowing that I have no option.”
“I will only play if I feel like I can give 100% of my chances. If that doesn’t help me win a single game, I will accept it, but I don’t see myself walking onto the court knowing that I have no option. If there is a 0.01 options I want to try, but if I have absolutely none, I prefer not to play,” he said.
“I don’t want to play Roland Garros if I have to go with caution and without being able to give my maximum effort, as happened in Barcelona and Madrid. It has been such a special tournament in my career and of so much sentimental value for me, that I would prefer to keep another memory “It will be hard if I’m not there, but I will only play if I feel competitive,” he made clear.
Nadal considers that he is fine and for him “it is a great joy to have been able to play in Barcelona, Madrid and Rome.” “For a long time I have thought that this will be my last year active, but my body reacted worse than expected. Luckily, now I have been feeling much better for a few weeks, I wish I had had this progression since January,” he added.
In this interview he also confirmed his intention to be in the Paris Olympic Games: “There are sensations that you can only experience in the Games, it is the essence of sport. This year they are very special being in Paris, so I would be very excited competing, it’s something that would make me happy.”
