Alba Berlin is the first team to reach the playoff semi-finals of the Basketball Bundesliga. At last year’s Champions League winner Telekom Baskets Bonn, the eleven-time champions scored their first match point in the best-of-five series with a hard-fought 93:86 (40:41) victory.
Alba clearly dominated game one, the second duel was much closer, and coach Israel Gonzalez’s team also had to stretch on Tuesday evening in Bonn.
It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that the favored Berliners were ahead by more than five points for the first time (74:68). The top scorers at Alba were world champions Johannes Thiemann and Louis Olinde (18 each), while Thomas Kennedy scored the most points for the Bonn team (22).
It is narrower between Chemnitz and Vechta
Alba will meet the winner of the quarter-final series between FIBA Europe Cup champion Niners Chemnitz and promoted Rasta Vechta in the semi-finals. Before the third meeting on Tuesday evening (8.30 p.m., live ticker at sportschau.de) in Vechta, the series is 1-1.
