Polleres was also eliminated early from the World Cup

Austria’s hopeful judoka are not having good times at the World Cup. In the class up to 70 kg, Michaela Polleres, fourth in the world rankings, had an early final stop in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

After a bye at the start, the Lower Austrian defeated the Dutch Hilde Jager, but then had to admit defeat to the Belgian Gabriella Willems. This means that so far the ÖJV has only achieved a surprising seventh place for Bernd Fasching (up to 81 kg).

“Didn’t find the fight”

Before Polleres’ last fight there was a half-hour break due to a technical problem with the LED board. “I don’t want to use that as an excuse. But I’m normally someone who wants to get on the mat quickly,” said the Olympic silver medalist. “I just couldn’t implement my plan today and couldn’t find my way into the fight.”

Head coach Yvonne Snir-Bönisch said: “Michi showed nerves today. Maybe it will help Paris if she is not considered the absolute favorite – as she is today.”
