Polish Ice Hockey Team Faces Kazakhstan in World Championships as Latvia Fights for Quarterfinal Spot

Today will continue with four games in Prague and Ostrava world Championship in hockeyLatvian hockey players not playing a match.

In Group A, Great Britain will play Norway at 5:20 p.m. in Prague and Finland will play Denmark at 9:20 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast live on the “lsm.lv/hokejs” website. Meanwhile, in Group B, Sweden will meet France at 5:20 p.m., while Kazakhstan will play against Poland at 9:20 p.m. Group B games will be broadcast live by Latvian Television Channel 7.

Canada has 17 points, the Czech Republic – 15 and Switzerland – 14 for the top three in Group A, securing a place in the quarterfinals after six games. Austria and Finland have seven points in six and five games each, Denmark has six points in six matches, Norway has three points, and Great Britain fights without points.



In Group B, Sweden has 15 in five matches and a place in the quarter-finals is assured. USA has 13 points in six games, Germany and Slovakia have 12 points each, and Latvia has nine points. France have four points from five matches, Kazakhstan three points and Poland one point. If the Latvian hockey players win in regular time in the last match against the USA, there is still a chance to secure a place in the quarterfinals.



Latvian ice hockey players will play the last subgroup match on Tuesday against the USA national team.

The 16 teams participating in the tournament are divided into two groups, with eight teams each, which guarantees seven games for each team. The top four teams in each group will continue the medal fight in the quarter-finals, while the weaker teams in both groups will leave the stronger division, and next year will be replaced by Hungary and Slovenia in the top 16.

Last year, the Canadians triumphed in the world championships, beating Germany in the decisive match, while Latvia won the bronze medals, defeating the USA national team in overtime.
The World Championship will be held in the Czech cities of Prague and Ostrava until May 26.
