“After a thorough analysis of the season, we have come to the conclusion that we need another coach for our team. “We appreciate Frank’s hard work and commitment,” Suns boss James Jones was quoted as saying in an official statement.

And further: “We are here to win a championship and last season was far below our expectations. We will continue to review the way we operate and make the necessary changes to achieve our championship goals.”

Suns debacle in the first round of the playoffs

The Suns had already failed in the first round of the playoffs when the most expensive team in NBA history lost all four games to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Shortly after the end, rumors arose that Vogel’s job was in danger.

In the regular season, Phoenix won 49 games (with 33 losses), which was only enough for 6th place in the Western Conference. According to reports, the coach is said to have lost the dressing room – even before the playoff debacle against Minnesota.

Vogel is accused of, among other things, a fake outburst of anger after a defeat against the Clippers during the regular season. In the dressing room, the players are said to have just rolled their eyes during his speech, and one player apparently even had to be held back because he almost couldn’t suppress his laughter.

Vogel came to Phoenix just a year ago as master coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. According to ESPN information, Mike Budenholzer, the former coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, is being considered as a successor.
