The Phillies will keep Ricardo Pinto despite having removed him from their 40-man roster and running the risk of losing him via waivers. But no other Major League Baseball (MLB) organization offered the Venezuelan a place on their roster and Philadelphia earned the right to keep him.
However, it will not be in the Major Leagues but in their Triple A branch. Pinto received the communication that he would have to go to the Minor Leagues and, with the possibility of opting for free agency, he preferred to remain with the Quakers.
It is necessary to remember that Ricardo Pinto was placed on assignment last Sunday. That transaction removed him from Philadelphia’s 40-man roster, so the pitcher was presented with three scenarios: being traded to another club, being sent to the lower categories or ending his relationship with the Phillies to seek a new contract.
Finally he decided to accept playing in Triple A and remaining with the organization that opened the doors to the Major Leagues for him again.
It is not a surprising path. After all, Pinto had a hard time signing a deal with an MLB organization despite his good numbers with the Tiburones de La Guaira and, despite signing a Minor League contract with Philadelphia, he was promoted to the majors right after the Opening Day.
RHP Ricardo Pinto (DFA’d on 4/28) has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Lehigh Valley (AAA).

Ricardo Pinto left an ERA of 10.97 with eight strikeouts in 10.2 innings with 19 hits allowed and a pair of home runs in the account. The Phillies designated him for assignment so they could sign Taijuan Walker.
