Perugian Athlete Wins Bronze at European Cup Junior Judo Competition – City Prepares for Martial Arts Event

PERUGIA – A Perugian in a blue jersey is a bronze medal at the European Cup Junior, an international judo competition held in Rijeka, Croatia. The moment of growth of the regional movement and martial arts athletes continues with this important result. The last seal bears the signature of Alessandro Bicorgni, athlete of I Poeti del Judo, who in the -66 kg category, where he competed in the blue jersey followed by the national technical staff, provided an exceptional performance, confirming great judo skills and an excellent race management.
Alessandro prevailed in the first match with a Dutch athlete, winning with a wazaari and an ippon, and then won again in the hard-earned match with a French opponent, then ranked third. Bicorgni then lost the semi-final match with an expert Indian athlete, ranked second in the category, to finally emerge victorious from the clash to win the bronze medal by beating a Spaniard with two wazaari.

In short, a great race for Bicorgni, in his third European Cup Junior after those in Anadia and Lignano, seventh place in both competitions. The Perugian, already the 2023 Italian champion in the -66 kg category cadet class, had achieved excellent results in the Iju (International Judo Union) circuit also last year, placing fifth at the European Cadets Cup in Coimbra, again in the blue jersey. A positioning that earned him participation in the European Youth Olympic Festival. Many prestigious results that repay Alessandro’s dedication and love for this sport, born as a child in the ranks of I Poeti del Judo, a passion that he cultivates with great commitment and sacrifice. Alessandro’s sporting commitments do not end here and the A2 finals of the Italian Absolute Championships are already being prepared, which will be held at the PalaBarton in Perugia this weekend. Then there will be the prestigious Grand Prix Colombo in Genoa.
THE TWO DAYS

Focusing attention on city events, Perugia is counting down to the series of three events which between Saturday and Sunday will bring over 1000 athletes representing 300 clubs to compete at the PalaBarton.

The spotlight will be on the absolute Italian A2 judo championship, a tricolor event which will be accompanied by the Fisdir – Fijilkam national championship and the third Ernesto Giaverina youth criterium, developed from the collaboration with Csen Umbria. The latter alone will bring 500 very young athletes to the field. Thus Perugia, for two days, will be transformed into the capital of martial arts. The races will start on Saturday and, interspersed with awards ceremonies for the various categories and competitions, will continue until late Sunday afternoon.
