Big party for the Under 13s of Perugia Basketball. In two days illuminated by the sun in segments of the Jr NBA branded ball, they once again place themselves among the elite of regional basketball, confirming the title won in January. At that time there was no comparison with the other “big” category, Interamna which had established itself peremptorily in the Silver championship.
It was the final everyone was waiting for and so it was. But first the semi-finals, which were certainly not a formality. If Terni, on Saturday, without its Conti Bartolucci tower, had struggled against the indomitable boys from Ponte, Centeno & Co suffered the first half at full speed with their now usual opponents from Marsciano, before taking off only from the third quarter onwards.
Sunday’s final began along the lines of the previous matches in the preliminary round: Parail and Mancini with good initiatives to sow panic in the defense of the young Lakers of Perugia who were also held back by so much tension.
But a good team game, despite some amnesia typical of youth, allowed us to keep up and stay in the lead.
First half closed at 24-29.
After the break, however, the Under 13s put the arrow on the line.
It may have been the incandescent support, led by team leader Michela Fioravanti, it may have been the mid-match adjustments, it may have been the great dirty work of the Arenella-Impallomeni duo and all the others who followed, but the Grifoncelli attack unfurled its sails.
From the middle of the third quarter it’s a completely different story.
In the fourth period Mancini’s heroic attempts were in vain, as he scored 24 points (with Parail out due to fouls). Lots of free throws earned for him. Too much to contain the gusts of Centeno and, in turn, all his teammates.
Grifoncelli going to +16, then we just wait for the siren.
Final result 66-58 and now two beautiful and “impossible” challenges with the winners of Marche and Abruzzo.
