Pemex owes 53,200 million pesos to suppliers – El Sol de México

Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has seven days left to pay 53,200 million pesos to suppliers and meet the goal of 70 billion set during the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on May 3.

In private meetings with more than 250 representatives of hydrocarbon exploration, engineering, drilling, production, environmental protection, security, transportation and marketing companies, the general director of the parastatal, Octavio Romero Oropeza, promised to comply with the payment in the during the current month, having already paid 16,800 million.

Pemex has paid 24 percent of the monthly commitment, subtracting 76 percent between now and May 31 to fulfill its offer, taking into account what the official said on Thursday night, in a meeting with suppliers and contractors, of the May 21 to 23 in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, and in Villahermosa, Tabasco, which were also attended by political authorities from both states.

In this context, the governor of Campeche, Layda Sansores San Román, reminded Romero Oropeza of the entity’s constant demand for better economic treatment.

“There are a thousand things to do so that Campeche receives fair treatment for its oil contribution that, instead of stellar moments in history, was relegated to a dark page,” said the president, describing the official’s visit as a “source of hope!”.

The head of Pemex had said that “Pemex’s business is not in riding contractors’ money, but in meeting its goals, and these are only achieved if commitments are met.”

Campeche exports more than half of Mexico’s oil

With around 150 platforms, the Campeche probe contributed 56.3 percent of the export derived from oil and gas extraction of the total in 2023, above Tabasco (37.4 percent), Veracruz (4.3 percent), Chiapas ( 1.4 percent) and Tamaulipas (0.6 percent), according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

However, since crude oil is extracted in the “territorial sea” and not on land, Campeche receives fewer economic benefits than other oil-producing entities, such as Tabasco.

Until 1980, the Campeche Sound provided 80 percent of national production, although with the crude oil crisis it has been reduced to only 40 percent, according to Pemex, although production will increase as six new platforms will be built in the fields. of Ayatsil, Kayab and Pit, as part of the 39 that the Federal Government has projected for the end of 2024.
