Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Charlotte Bonnet beats her own French record in the 100m breaststroke

A good result two months before the Games for Charlotte Bonnet. During the Renens meeting in Switzerland this Saturday, not far from her new training location, the Frenchwoman improved her French record in the 100m breaststroke to 1′07″30. She had held the best French mark over this distance since March 2023, where she improved the time established by Sophie De Ronchi Turban in 2011, with a time of 1′07″76 before improving it in June 2023 (1′07″ 54).

On the same day, Charlotte Bonnet took part in the 200m medley, completed in a time of 2′11″49, a distance over which she became European vice-champion in short course in 2023. “A good start of the weekend,” she then commented on social networks. This Sunday morning, she won the 200m breaststroke in 2′29″95, far from her reference time (02′25″21 in 2023).

A new coach since February

This is Charlotte Bonnet’s first competition since she changed training locations. “On February 20 on social networks, the Frenchwoman, bronze medalist at the London Games in 2012 in the 4×200 m freestyle relay, announced that she was leaving Philippe Lucas, her coach since the end of 2021. She wanted to find her husband, Jérémy Desplanches, also a high-level swimmer.

“With age and experience, I know what I need today,” she wrote on Instagram. Being happy and fulfilled in my life as an athlete and a woman is what matters most to me. Joining my husband in Geneva therefore became obvious, and I am convinced that I am making the right decision. » She assured that she had remained on “very good terms” with the famous French trainer. She now trains with Clément Bailly in Geneva.
