This is the last major judo qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Olympic qualification period closes on June 23 and the final ranking will be almost identical to the one left by this World Cup. Cordones, along with his compatriot Kristine Jiménez, is on the path to qualification.

Despite this, Cordones reaffirms that it will be a unique experience to be in that competition: “A few days after being in a world competition for the first time, the Abu Dhabi World Championships Senior, I have in mind to give my best and do an excellent job within the Tatami.”
The judoka won gold medals in -52 kg at the Pan American Judo Open, which was held in Santiago, Chile; at the beginning of May, and at the Luanda African Open 2024, which was held in Angola, last April.
“I feel very happy with the results obtained and with the goal of continuing to grow as an athlete. Grateful to the United Judo Federation of Panama and the Panama Olympic Committee for their support,” acknowledged the athlete who has had a training base in La Coruña, Spain, in the last three months, in addition to other concentrations outside the Iberian country.
“I hope to continue seeing the results of the work I have done and I hope that all these experiences will serve as encouragement to others,” he added.
The World Judo Championships will be held on May 23 in Abu Dhabi.
