Lilli Tagger’s current run of success never ends. After her biggest career success to date in Salsomaggiore the week before last, the 16-year-old has now taken home the trophy again at another traditional ITF J200 clay court tournament in Italy. The unseeded East Tyrolean (ITF 101) won the Città di Prato International Tournament U18 ITF 2024 thanks to an astonishingly smooth 6:1, 6:1 in the final on Saturday afternoon against the eighth-ranked American Maya Iyengar (ITF 97), who is the same age. The title win in the city of Prato in the Tuscany region is Tagger’s fourth at the international U18 tournament level after Güssing 2022 (J5 – according to the new category J30), Loughborough (J100), Salsomaggiore and Prato (J200 each) 2024. In the youth world rankings she succeeded on On Monday she made it into the top 100 for the first time. And this was clear: she improved by 39 places to position 62. In her latest coup, ÖTV’s great hope for the future was once again provided by her coach, the ex-French Open winner Francesca Schiavone , personally looked after.

Tagger recently sensationally reached the final of the top-class ITF J300 tournament in Beaulieu-sur-Mer (France). After the subsequent victory in Salsomaggiore, she stormed through the table in Prato and again only lost one set during the tournament. She eliminated the sixth-placed Thai Lidia Podgorichani (ITF 92) 7:5, 6:3, then the Latvian Marina Markina (ITF 197) 6:3, 6:1 and in the quarterfinals the 15-year-old Italian Wildcard owner Ilary Pistola (ITF 607) won 6:1, 7:5 until she even received the maximum penalty in the first set in the semifinals. In the end, Tagger scored a clear 0:6, -6:3, -6:2 comeback win against the fifth-seeded Egyptian Jana Hossam Salah (ITF 86) before she achieved her crowning achievement against Iyengar the next day. This time she continues in the new week with the adults: At her ITF W35 home tournament in Warmbad Villach, she received a well-deserved main competition wildcard given these performances.
