Ostapenko will meet Romanian Christiana in the first round of the French Open

Ostapenko ranks tenth in the WTA ranking and is seeded ninth at the French Open. Kristiana is in the 67th position of the ranking.

The two tennis players have met each other once, the Romanian won in two sets in the round of 16 of the 2021 St. Petersburg tournament.

The 25-year-old Christiana will play in the main tournament of the French Open for the first time in her career. She has not managed to win any WTA title so far, the closest being in 2021 at the Linz tournament, where the Romanian tennis player fought to the final.

She achieved her best result this season at the Cluj-Napoca tournament held in her homeland in February, where she reached the semi-finals. Before going to Paris, the Romanian participated in the Rome “WTA 1000” tournament in Rome, losing in the second game of the main tournament.

The 26-year-old Ostapenko will play in the French Open for the tenth time in her career and the ninth time in a row in the main tournament. In 2017, she became the winner of the “French Open”, achieving one of the biggest successes in the history of Latvian sports, but after that she did not manage to go beyond the third round on the Paris courts. Last year, the owner of eight WTA titles, Ostapenko stopped in the second round.

The Riga native also previously competed in the “WTA 1000” tournament in Rome, reaching the quarterfinals. In the first half of the season, the Latvian tennis player won the “WTA 500” tournaments in Adelaide and Linz.

In the second round, the German Tatjana Maria (WTA 64) or the Danish Klara Tauson (WTA 71) will face each other.

The second racket of Latvia, Darja Semenistaja, did not pass the second round of qualification.

The French Open Championship is the second “Grand Slam” tournament of the season, and its main tournament will take place from May 27 to June 9.
