Pasquini: «The twentieth edition is a milestone»

«This year’s edition of the Oratorio Cup represents a milestone because it is the number 20 – declares Daniele Pasquini, president of the CSI, Rome Committee – An important milestone for all of us, I still remember when we started this adventure in 2003-04, we had just 5 teams, from the eastern area of the capital. Today our event has become an important piece of sporting history of the area, with over 200 teams registered throughout the Rome area and province. In these two decades of activity we have seen two generations of children and teenagers grow; the first participants trained on the pitches of the oratories have become adults, have graduated, work and some have even started families. This is the satisfaction bigger for the Italian Sports Center which, as the founder Luigi Gedda said, has as its main objective that of EDUCAtIoN through sport, good Christians and honest citizens, following the example of Don Bosco”.

More than just a tournament

The Oratorio Cup can rightfully be defined as the quintessence of CSI brand sport and it is one educational and training proposal tailor-made for parishes, oratories and religious institutes in the province of Rome. It is not simply a championship dedicated to parishes, but a wide-ranging project that involves all age groups and unites all participants in a large choir of people. Just remember the numbers from last season: 208 teams, 2400 athletes, 400 educators, 1263 matches played.

The Oratorio Cup will have an addendum on Sunday 12 May, at the Physical Village, when the finals of the Under 8 and Under 9 categories will be played. The U16, U17, U19, Open and Amateur categories, however, will still play the regular season and will conclude their championships with the definitive rankings in June.
