LINZ. The offspring of ASKÖ Judo Linz made a big impression at the 1st International Gerhard Dorfinger Memorial Tournament in Straßwalchen.
430 athletes from home and abroad took part in the first edition of the memorial tournament in honour of Gerhard Dorfinger, mentor of Olympic silver medalist Ludwig Paischer. Among them were eleven fighters from Askö Judo Linz.
For many of the Linz judokas it was their first appearance at such a big tournament, which initially caused some nervousness. But under the experienced guidance of the coaching team Markus Philipp and Alexander Rimser, the young athletes were able to quickly acclimatize during the warm-up. “I am incredibly proud of our team. The results reflect the hard training and dedication our fighters show in training. I am particularly pleased that despite the nervousness everyone gave their best and gained valuable experience,” said Alexander Rimser, chairman and trainer of ASKÖ Judo Linz. Coach Markus Philipp added: “It was a great opportunity to compete with international athletes and demonstrate your own skills.
Three gold medals from Stefan Rimser (U10), Emilia Philipp (U12) and Tobias Philipp (U14), a bronze medal from Laura Kormanicki (U12), a fourth place from Tara Mayr (U16) and four fifth places from Egon Mayr (U12), Sandro Kotschischwili (U12), Mykyta Nadarian (U14) and David Schmid (U16) were the results of the first day.

The next day, some judoka fought again together with SK Vöest Judo as the Linz judo community in the U12 mix student team at the international tournament in Straßwalchen. “The premiere was a perfect success and we achieved the deserved third place. With a bit of luck, second place would have been possible,” said Alexander Rimser. Viktor Raich (Askö Judo Linz), Maximilian Bella (SK Vöest), Moritz Dolzer (SK Vöest), Egon Mayr (Askö Judo Linz) and Fabio Schrotzhammer (SK Vöest) were in the team.
