Novak Djokovic Suffers Setback Ahead of French Open: No Tournament Win Yet in 2024

Status: 24.05.2024 17:20

World number one tennis player Novak Djokovic has suffered another setback two days before the start of the French Open in Paris. The Serb lost in the semifinals of the preparation tournament in Geneva to Czech Tomas Machac 4:6, 6:0, 1:6.

This means that the Grand Slam record winner will start Roland Garros without a single tournament win this season. Djokovic (37) had accepted a wildcard for the tournament in Switzerland in order to get in shape for the clay court highlight.

No final yet in 2024

He managed two victories, but after the defeat against Machac (23) he has to tackle the title defense in Paris without the hoped-for tailwind of a title. In the first round, Djokovic will face the Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert on Monday or Tuesday.

This is only the fourth time Djokovic has traveled to Roland Garros without winning a tournament, after 2005, 2006 and 2018. He won the most recent of his 98 titles last year at the ATP Finals in Turin. This year he is still waiting to reach a final.
