Novak Djokovic Struggles to Find Form: Speaks Out on Form Crisis

Novak Djokovic is currently unable to find his top form. Now he spoke about his form crisis.

Everything was supposed to turn out well in Geneva, but Novak Djokovic is heading to Paris with more self-doubt than ever. “Of course I’m worried. I haven’t played well all year,” said the world number one tennis player after his next setback. In the semifinals of the ATP tournament in Switzerland, Djokovic surprisingly lost 4:6, 6:0, 1:6 to the Czech Tomas Machac. Before the French Open, the Serb is still without a final appearance this year. On Friday, his stomach was acting up.

“It was a terrible feeling,” said Djokovic, who was being treated on the court. “It wasn’t a great night and it wasn’t good today either.” Machac deserved the win, though. “I just want to forget about it and go to Paris,” said Djokovic. He will start there as defending champion, but no longer as top favorite. The 37-year-old sees it similarly: “I have to take it match by match and see how far I can get.” In the first round, Djokovic will face Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

Last tournament win in 2023

The 24-time Grand Slam champion travelled to Geneva to finally get back into top form after a few weak weeks. Despite the latest defeat, he tried to look at the positive side. “It was good that I came here and played more than one match. I played three,” said Djokovic.

This is only the fourth time that Djokovic has traveled to Roland Garros without winning a tournament, after 2005, 2006 and 2018. He won the most recent of his 98 titles last year at the ATP Finals in Turin.
