Novak Djokovic Hit on Head with Bottle but Declares He is Fine and Ready to Continue in Rome Masters 1000

Novak Djokovic declared he felt fine after being accidentally hit on the head with a thermal bottle after winning his first match in this edition of the Rome Masters 1000. And although there were doubts about whether he was going to continue in the tournament, the Serbian made the decision to continue. “I’ll see you on Sunday,” he said.

“Thank you for the messages of concern. This was an accident and I’m fine resting at the hotel with an ice pack. See you all on Sunday,” Nole posted on his X account (@DjokerNole), to bring peace of mind to his followers.

The bottle that Novak Djokovic received

A man leaned over the railing to hand Djokovic a notebook to sign when the bottle fell out of the admirer’s backpack and hit the world number one on the head.

After the blow, Djokovic put both hands on his head and crouched down as security guards protected him. In fact he remained lying there for a few seconds. Then they helped him out through the tunnel to the locker room.

Djokovic suffered a blow to the head and was examined by tournament doctors, organizers reported. He did not give his usual post-game press conference.

What the tournament organizers said

“While leaving center court after the match, Novak Djokovic was hit in the head by a water bottle while signing autographs. He received medical attention and already left the Foro Italico to go to his hotel. His condition is not a cause for concern,” organizers said in a statement.

Djokovic had a little blood, but did not need stitches, Italian Tennis Federation spokesman Alessandro Catapano said. “Nole was taken to the hotel and he appears to be fine. He was upset, but fine,” Catapano assured. “We’re trying to find out who he was and understand the dynamics.”

The incident occurred shortly after the Serbian won his first match in the tournament, beating Frenchman Corentin Moutet 6-3, 6-1, who had come from the qualifying round.
