North Rhine-Westphalia Wins Junior Women’s Softball National Cup with Bavaria Taking Third Place

The junior women’s softball national cup took place again in Paderborn on the Whitsun weekend. Bavaria had a perfect preliminary round, winning against Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Berlin-Brandenburg and Hesse. This meant that they went into the semi-final against North Rhine-Westphalia without any losses.

Having reached the semifinals on Sunday, NRW applied pressure from the first pitch. Hard hits into the outfield followed by well-placed bunts put the Bavarian team in a situation that would have required mental strength, but the young Bavarian team took a little too long to deal with this situation.

From the third inning onwards, Bayern also hit the balls very hard and caught up very well. Unfortunately, the regulation time was over in the 5th inning and while Bayern had caught up very strongly, the game was declared over. Who knows how it would have turned out if they had been able to play the regular 7 innings… Nevertheless, after this strong performance, NRW deserved to be in the final against Baden-Württemberg.

The final match was very exciting, but due to an early Grand Slam by NRW, Baden-Württemberg’s point lead could no longer be caught up.

It should be mentioned that Bayern won so many games because the young Bavarian team (U19 seven + U16 six players) was very strong, especially in offense. With a little work on mental skills, the team will be a fearsome opponent next year too.
