North Carolina Woman Sues LaMelo Ball for Allegedly Running Over Son at Hornets Event

A North Carolina woman has sued LaMelo Ball, accusing him of running over her son when he was trying to get her autograph. The plaintiff, Tamaria McRae, claims that the Hornets player caused her 11-year-old son foot and back injuries, and has sought compensation in the amount of $25,000.

This alleged attack took place in the month of October, coinciding with the celebration at the Spectrum Center of an event organized by the franchise to which many fans attended in the hope of meeting the players. Among them was the alleged victim, who like many others approached the employee exit of the pavilion in the hope of obtaining the autograph of the players when they stopped their car at a traffic light located a few meters from the parking lot. However, the prosecution points out that, when it turned green, Ball started his car “negligently and recklessly, accelerating without warning and striking” his son.

According to Baxter Holmes, journalist for ESPN, Charlotte police have obtained a report referring to the child’s injuries, which describe that he suffered minor bruises and scratches. Her mother, however, alleges that her son suffered severe physical and emotional pain when receiving this impact from a player whom she considered her hero.

Although there are no images of what happened, since the news was announced, many fans have recovered videos in which vehicles supposedly driven by Ball leave the Spectrum Center recklessly, sometimes even ignoring the red light. However, in several of them it is impossible to ensure simply from the video that it is LaMelo who is driving.

For now, neither the franchise nor those around the player have wanted to make any statements. We will see if the situation has a greater scope or if it ends up coming to nothing.
